Micheal's 54 oval

Time for another update. I've been very busy lately, so i didn't have any time to update the weblog. But today i received some pictures from Micheal's 54 oval, which is a very cool looking swedish rat!
Micheal slammed the oval down to earth with a 4 inch narrowed beam from VolkxWorkx. The oval is only a few cm's above the street, i just love the stance of the car!

Time for some pictures:

Home again

The '58 is home again!

After a relaxing holiday @ Tenerife, i finished the '58.  The airride is now fully functional, i had some troubles with the air-compressor. So i put in a other one and it works now! Enough talking, here are some pictures:

The next thing that is one the list is a cross-over steering (in Dutch; Centrale Stuurstang). This means that the frontwheels are always in the same position, so there will be no 'toe-in' anymore. A picture to explain the cross-over steering:

Budel '09

We had a great time at the 'Internationaal Kever Weekend' in Budel, which was 19, 20 and 21 june. It was the first time that Erwin (www.volksprojects.nl) and i had a stand on a aircooled meeting. We had to make some long days and worked very hard in the week before Budel, but it was worth all that! I thought that there was a lot of interest, in our products, troughtout the weekend. The guys from VolksRepairs (which had their stand right across ours) confirmed this tought. And i would like to thank them for helping out with our tent on Friday, we surely could use those extra hands! Thanks guys and congrats with the 'King of the Jungle' price.
Having your own stand on Budel shows an complete different side of the event, but this was an great experience to. I would like to thank everybody who visited us and i hope to see you all next year!

Preparing for Budel

Last weekend we worked hard to ensure that everything is finished before Budel. Last friday i made an 4" narrowed front beam, which will be used as display model on our stand at Budel. I also started to weld the new type front beam together, i hope to finish that one on wednesday.
On saterday i mounted the torsionarms on the airbeam, these torsionarms have a re-located lower shockmount.
Today i finished with laying the wiring and the airhoses into the '58, so that's done to. Erwin did the last welding on the heavy duty airshocks, so i sprayed them black and they are drying right know. These airshocks are the last major things that need to be mounted before the airride installation is complete!
Time for some pictures:

The progress on the '58

Last monday we worked on the '58 and we made some good progress. First of all i mounted the steeringbox and shortend steeringsrods, so it's steerings again! After that i installed the airride dropped extensions on the rear, i needed to cut the lower shockmounts and i needed the grind a bit of the springplate. I also started the wiring from the electronic valve manifold to the controlpanel under the dash.
Erwin is almost finished with the heavy duty rear airshocks, so those can be installed soon!

Busy busy busy...

It's time for an update again. It has been a while ago, but i went on a small vacation to Mallorca. My little sister has a internship in a luxury hotel on Mallorca, so my girlfriend and i went to visit her.

Last time the airtank was at the sandblaster and i primed it before i went to Mallorca. I hope to give it some fresh black paint tonight so it be can mounted into the trunk of the '58 tomorrow. I also made the airride dropped extensions for the rear of the '58 and i finished the shocktowers for the balljoint front axle.

Tomorrow i'll continue to work on the '58 and i hope to have at the end of the day an fully functional front end.

The preparations for the IKW at Budel (19,20 and 21 june) are been started. Don't forget to visit my friend Erwin (from VolksProjects) and me at our stand. On which you can find nearly anything to lower or mount airride on your aircooled vw.

Enough talking, here are some pictures from the airtank, airride dropped extensions and the balljoint shocktowers:

Installing airride under the '58

A bit later than i told in my last post, but here is the update on installing airride in my '58 beetle.

Last friday i installed the control panel under the dash and i installed the airtank, compressor and valveblock into the trunk of the '58. As the tank came without any brackets, i had to make them out of some steel. The tank is being sand-blasted this week, so i can pick it up at friday and give it some fresh paint then. Ofcourse i took some pictures:

The valveblock, i already put some airhoses into the car. I installed the compressor behind the spare tire.

There are only a few thing left to do. Connecting the electrics is the biggest thing thats need to be done, furthermore i need to put a couple airhoses in etc.

Prototype new type shocktower

Last thursday i went to pick up the prototypes of the specially designed shocktowers for a new type beetle front axle. The shocktowers aren't complety finished yet, there will be triangle on the front to give some additional strength to the shocktower.
The shocktowers are professionally bent by a computer controlled press.

Check out the pictures:

Low enough?

Yesterday evening i went to Erwin to get my '58 out of his garage and to get the black oval back in the garage. The front end of the beetle is done now. And i have to say, it looks pretty cool!
The frontaxle is on the ground, so it can't go any lower! Ofcourse i took some pictures of the '58 with his nose down to earth. I hope to get started on the rear end soon, but there are also some other things that need to be done.

Enough talking, here are a couple of pictures:

Busy weekend!

Last friday i made an 4 inch narrowed beam for Michael, which he is going to mount under his swedish '54 ratlook bug. First of all i welded the adjusters to the steel tubes. After that i spended a lot of time to make sure the beam was complety straight.

The end result, Michael have fun with your new 4 inch narrowed beam!

On saterday Erwin and I started to work on the airride for the '58. We dismounted the old front axle and mounted the custom build airbeam. Next weekend we will continue to work on the '58. It needs to be done before Budel this year (19, 20 and 21 june), but i guess this isn't going to a problem! Knipogen

The 'Mosquito'

As long as i can remember a cool little aircooled 'Mosquito' engine was laying around on the attic. This engine belonged to the grandfather of my dad, so that would be my great-grandfather. My great-grandfather bought this 'Mosquito' engine in 1954, at that time it was complety new. He bought it from a bicycle-dealer in Heerlen (South-East of the Netherlands). A cool little piece of history!

Last december my dad was in a local bicycle-store, where he encountered an old Gazelle bike. This bike was complety orginal and has an cool patina on it! The ideal bike for the old 'Mosquito' engine.

After gathering some information about the 'Mosquito', we started to mount the 'Mosquito' on the bike. Today i finished it, it looks really really cool and driving it is a lot of fun!

The 'Mosquito' is made in Holland, with a little Italian influence i guess!

But this isn't the only thing what is going around at VolkxWorkx. The final designs for a ball-joint front axle (build from complety new materials) are being made, soon more information.

Custom heavy duty Airshocks!

Last friday i went to Erwin to help him in and around his garage. We worked on the black oval and finished the front end. Erwin already started on the custom airshocks which will be used for the rear air suspension of my 58 bug. I got some lasercut struts for the airbag which Erwin TIG welded to the lowered oil filled shock. So it's going to be air tight for sure!

If you are interested in airride for your own aircooled volkswagen, please contact me at info@volkxworkx.nl for more information.

I made a couple of pictures of the current state of the custom airshocks.

Airride Dropped Extensions

My friend Erwin from VolksProjects, asked me for some special made dropped extensions for useage with custom build airshocks. These dropped extensions are installed on a nice black oval, which hopefully will be finished soon!

More information about this ride on Erwin's website: www.volksprojects.nl

As you can see on the pictures below, the lower shockmounts are on a different location and they are re-inforced.

Airride for the '58!!!

Finally, i almost gathered all the products needed for the airride on my '58 bug.
I designed and builded an custom airbeam. During the process of designing i've chosen to use airshocks on the front. The airmanagement is a electronic 4-valve manifold with a custom build (and laser cut) control panel. I'll use a 20 L airtank and 8 mm airlines. A 70 L/min compressor is used to fill the airtank.

All the fittings and airlines will be provided by my friend Erwin from VolksProjects (www.volksprojects.nl). Erwin and I are also working on some heavy duty airshocks for the rear of a beetle, soon more information about these custom build airshocks!!

Do you want airride for your aircooled beetle or bus, please contact me for further information @ info@volkxworkx.nl.

The FreddyFiles '09 @ Ninove

Last sunday i drove the '58 to Ninove.

Airmighty.com arranged the 'Cruise 2 Ninove', so i hooked up with them at bordercrossing Hazeldonk. At 10 a.m. we left the bordercrossing and drove to Ninove. It was a really nice drive, lovely weather and 38 aircooled cars on the road! I think the cruise was a big succes. A few photos:
